Modernization of the Farm

Short introduction by dr. Henk Oostindie (WUR)

The sensible farmer rationalizes, supported by credits and the extension agent. Science helps the farmer to distinguish the rational from the irrational.

The first two movies aim to instruct and motivate the farmer to work more efficiently. Good Feeding, Good Pigs (1955, 17 min.) tells farmers that pigs need ‘quiet and space’ (and good food) in order to produce the lean meat the housewife wants. Work Smarter, Earn More (1956, 19 min.) is the story of agricultural modernization in a nutshell. Poultry Breeding (1960, 10 min.) focusses on what science can mean for the poultry farmer. The last movie, The White Revolution (1980, 27 min., colour), also highlights the role science – and WUR –, in this case concerning dairy farming.
