De twaalfjarige Bailey woont bij haar vader Bug in een kraakpand in het noorden van Kent. Bug heeft weinig tijd voor zijn dochter, want hij gaat binnenkort trouwen en heeft een fantastisch idee om snel geld te verdienen. Om de chaos thuis te ontsnappen, is Bailey veel alleen op pad, het liefst buiten in de natuur. Daar ontmoet ze de excentrieke en eigenzinnige Bird, die op zoek is naar zijn geboortehuis in de buurt. Nieuwsgierig maar voorzichtig besluit Bailey hem te helpen.

Bird is de nieuwe film van Andrea Arnold (Fish Tank, American Honey, Cow). De film schetst een portret van het leven aan de buitenranden van de Britse samenleving, waarin een familie ondanks de omstandigheden voor elkaar door het vuur gaat. Arnolds empathie en vermogen om schoonheid te vinden in moeilijke omstandigheden geven de film vleugels. Moving social-realist drama about a lonely British teenager who strikes up a special friendship with the mysterious Bird.

Twelve-year-old Bailey lives with her father Bug in a squat in north Kent. Bug has little time for his daughter, as he is getting married soon and has a foolproof idea for making easy money. To escape the chaos at home, Bailey spends a lot of time on her own, preferably out and about in the countryside. That’s where she meets the eccentric Bird, who is looking for the place where he was born somewhere nearby. Curious but cautious, Bailey decides to help him.

Bird is the new film from Andrea Arnold (Fish Tank, American Honey, Cow). It paints a portrait of life on the fringes of British society, in which a family will go through fire for each other despite their situation. Arnold’s empathy and ability to find beauty in difficult circumstances give the film wings.
