Lucie Prost – France, 2024 – 90 minutes – spoken language: French, with English subtitles

Farmer’s son turned city boy Léo (played by rising star Finnegan Oldfield) returns home to confront the aftermath of his father’s death. When he suspects that the trout in the local river are mutating due to mining activities in the area, he begins to unravel. Prost captures the environmental angst felt by a growing number of people. This introspective balancing act between reality and imagination is enriched with strong music and family dynamics. Fario sheds light on the issue of farmer suicides in France while leaving space for ecological resistance.

Prior to the main movie we will show the short film Would You Still Love Me If I Was Sticky Frog? by Myles Storey (17 minutes): A playful short that combines real wildlife footage of endangered species with a universal story of long-distance love.

About Sprouts Film Festival:
“In times of a glitching world, with weather extremes and inhumane conflicts intensifying, it can be tempting to avert your gaze. Instead, Sprouts wants to make the cinema a site for peaceful protest by showing newly released ecocinema and socially critical debut films. All selected features and shorts are fiction, because it is our belief that through the power of imagination we can alter our behaviour for the better and rethink our relationship with the more-than-human world. We are here to make you wonder, to inform, to spark resistance and to nurture fresh talent.”
