De bekwame dokter Alexandra moet door personeelsgebrek twee shifts tegelijkertijd draaien op de spoedeisende hulp. Wanneer ze door tijdgebrek de achttienjarige patiënt Oliver en zijn moeder naar huis stuurt en Oliver enkele minuten later een levensbedreigende beroerte krijgt, begint Alexandra aan zichzelf te twijfelen. Schuldgevoelens en verwijten zinderen door de ziekenhuisgangen en Alexandra wordt geconfronteerd met de emotionele gevolgen van een medische fout.
Second Victims laat zien dat dokters even goed slachtoffer zijn van het falende zorgsysteem. De film is een enorm succes in Denemarken en wordt er de beste film van het jaar genoemd.

A blood-curdling Danish medical drama, in which a misdiagnosis during a hectic shift changes the lives of both patient and doctor forever.
Due to staff shortages, Alexandra, a capable doctor, has to work a double shift in the emergency room. When she sends 18-year-old patient Oliver and his mother home due to time constraints and Oliver suffers a life-threatening stroke a few minutes later, Alexandra begins to doubt herself. Feelings of guilt and recriminations reverberate through the hospital corridors and Alexandra is confronted with the emotional consequences of a medical error.
Second Victims shows that doctors are equally victims of the failing healthcare system. The film is a huge success in Denmark where it has been hailed best film of the year.
