Een Poolse dameskapper in Parijs wordt na een half jaar huwelijk door zijn knappe vrouw Dominique (Julie Delpy) aan de kant gezet vanwege zijn impotentie. Als dan ook nog die kapsalon in vlammen opgaat, dreigt hij aan lager wal te raken. Met hulp van een louche landgenoot vlucht hij naar Polen, bouwt een nieuw fortuin op en zint op een dramatische terugkeer naar Frankrijk en naar Dominique.
In Trois Couleurs: Blanc is gelijkheid het thema. Waar Bleu een tragisch drama was, is Blanc een bittere komedie. De film won in 1994 op het Filmfestival van Berlijn de Zilveren beer voor Beste Regie.

This is the second part of Kieślowski’s re-released Trois Couleurs (Three Colours) trilogy in which each film represents one of the three ideals of the French Revolution: liberty, equality and fraternity.
A Polish hairdresser in Paris is divorced by his beautiful wife Dominique (Julie Delpy) after six months because he is unable to consummate their marriage. When the salon also goes up in flames, his life threatens to go off the rails. With the help of a shady compatriot, he flees to Poland, amasses a fortune again and plots his dramatic return to France and to Dominique.
The theme of Trois Couleurs: Blanc (Three Colours: White) is equality. Whereas Bleu (Blue) was a tragic drama, Blanc is a darkly comedic tale. The film won the Silver Bear for Best Director at the 1994 Berlin International Film Festival.
