The arrival of western backpackers in a small village in a remote and unspoilt region of Laos has a disruptive effect on the local population. Two childhood friends, Khao and Shai, decide to seize the opportunities offered by the arrival of the tourists, unaware of the consequences this will have on their town and their friendship.
This beautifully filmed, intriguing documentary does not judge, but critically illustrates the cultural clash through telling images and scenes. The awkwardness when the naive western tourists delve into village life is palpable. The inevitable question arises of who benefits the most from the introduction of tourism.
