How can you grow up and yet remain young? This is one of the questions explored in While We’re Young, the latest film by Noah Baumbach, the New York director of light-hearted dramas. We have previously screen his much-praised film Frances Ha.
Josh and his wife Cornelia are living the perfect life in New York. Josh is working enthusiastically on his new documentary while Cornelia has a successful career as a producer. When all their friends start having babies, Josh and Cornelia notice that they aren’t as young as they thought they were. Just at that moment, a couple of hipster twenty-year-olds come into their lives. The free-spirited Jamie and Darby are spontaneous, disarming and cool. What’s more they seem to be able to make every day a party. Their enthusiasm and self-confidence infects the two forty-year-olds. How long will their rejuvenation last? This sensitive tragicomedy offers both humour and depth.
