In recognition of this year’s Paris Climate Change Conference, Movie W is screening this recent film about the artist and climate visionary Peter Westerveld. With his landscape artworks in East Africa, he wanted to stop erosion, provide drinking water for animals and people and kick-start large-scale reforestation using natural processes.
The documentary follows Westerveld on his mission to convince the world that landscape projects like his can solve climate change. He encounters many hurdles along the way. His death in August 2014 is unexpected and halts all progress until his ideas gain a wider following. Wageningen UR, for example, is currently helping to reconstruct his climate artworks. And Naga Foundation, which supported Westerveld while he was alive, has been inspired by his beliefs to carry out ambitious new re-greening projects.
The director Mariette Faber will be present at the screening on Wednesday 9 December and will give a short introduction to her film.
