In this both musically and visually stunning film, director Peter Krüger reconstructs the story of an unusual obsession. In the early twentieth century Frenchman Raymond Borremans abandoned Europe for Africa in order to compile the first encyclopedia of this continent. He died when he had reached the letter N and today his restless ghost wanders through West Africa looking for a new incarnation. He still wants to finish his work… The viewer gradually gains an insight into the absurdity of Western rationality. Hovering between dream and reality, the film confronts Western reason with African spirituality. Nigerian author Ben Okri wrote the script for this documentary, filmed in Mali, Senegal and Ivory Coast. At Filmfestival Oostende N-The Madness of Reason won prizes for Best Film, Best Montage and Best Music.
