Julieta (Emma Suárez) lives with her 18-year-old daughter Antía in Madrid. Her husband recently passed away and she is doing her best to cope with this loss. The long sadness that mother and daughter experience tests their relationship and slowly drives them apart. When, without any explanation, Antía, leaves home, Julieta does everything she can to find her. In her search for Antía, Julieta discovers how little she really knows about her own daughter.
In this romantic drama from the maestro Almodóvar, flashbacks show us three phases of Julieta’s life. The film focuses on the question what moves someone to leave the person they love. Julieta is an intense, deep film that shows that people will always remains a mystery. The plot is based on the novel ‘Runaway’ by Alice Munro, for which the author won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2013. Julieta was nominated this year for various awards including the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival.
