In an invisible territory at the margins of society lives a wounded community who face the threat of being forgotten by political institutions and having their rights as citizens trampled. Disarmed veterans, taciturn adolescents, drug addicts trying to escape addiction through love; ex-special forces soldiers still at war with the world; floundering young women and future mothers; and old people who have not lost their desire to live. Through this hidden pocket of humanity, renowned documentarian Roberto Minervini opens a window to the abyss of today’s America.
The Other Side was part of Un Certain Regard program at Film Festival Cannes and won The Best Cinematography Award at the Montreal International Documentary Festival.
LOOKING FOR AMERICA
In the run-up to the American presidential elections, this autumn Movie W is turning its curious gaze on the United States. Themed ‘Looking for America’, three thought-provoking films will be screened in October and November. All Americans dream, but for many the dream never becomes reality. Perhaps because they have the wrong background, or no education or family or money. These films take a closer look. The Other Side is the third and final movie from the cyclus.
