he exciting feature film Le Fils de Jean, based on the novel by Jean-Paul Dubois “Si ce livre pouvait me rapprocher de toi” starts out as a drama and gradually becomes a thriller.
Mathieu has never known his father. He is 33 years old and lives in Paris. One day he gets a phone call from Canada and discovers not only that his father, Jean, lived in Quebec but that he had a family there. Mathieu decides to travel to Canada and finds out that nobody is aware of his existence. Except for Pierre, Jean’s best friend, who reluctantly takes him under his wing. As tensions rise in this remote area of the Canadian wilderness, they put a completely different complexion on the relationships between the main characters. Slowly but surely, Mathieu discovers what kind of man his father was.
The clever unravelling of the plot keeps us on the edge of our seats and the director Philippe Lioret is helped in building the suspense by the cast’s phenomenal acting.
