In the very funny Italian film Perfetti Sconosciuti (Perfect Strangers) seven good friends enjoy a meal together. They swear they have no secrets from one another. This boast prompts a daring experiment: they all place their smart phones on the table and from then on every call and message received is shared with the group. Of course, explosive secrets come to light.
The dialogue is extremely witty, in quick and exquisite Italian. The rapid succession of events ensures that the film never fails to fascinate and entertain. The stellar cast displays perfect timing, expression and nuance, easily switching back and forth between comedy and drama.
Meanwhile, the underlying questions in the film provide plenty of food for thought. “What do we win if we give away our secrets? What is the price of perfect honesty?” Perfetti Sconosciuti won Italian awards for Best Film and Best Scenario and in spring 2016 was Italy’s cinema hit drawing more than 3 million visitors. At the Tribeca Film Festival in New York the film also won the award for best scenario.
