International Film Festival Rotterdam 2017 preview: a brilliant character study and remarkably intimate portrait of Jackie Kennedy, portrayed by Natalie Portman.
In Jackie, Natalie Portman becomes First Lady Jackie Kennedy. Through the eyes of this charismatic woman, the movie tells the story of the assassination of John F. Kennedy and the four days of national mourning – a time when the entire world was watching the famous widow. She was a woman in mourning, who had to put up a brave front in order to reassure a shocked nation and to determine how her husband would go down in history.
The leading role is played by Oscar winner Natalie Portman (Black Swan and Closer). The direction is in the hands of acclaimed cineast Pablo Larraín, who earlier had success with No (2012) and has recently released ‘Neruda’ (2016). Jackie was very enthusiastically received at the Toronto Film Festival, where it won the Platform Prize. At the prestigious Venice Film Festival the movie was awarded Best Screenplay.
