Realistic road movie about love, nature, social order and finding your own way: vital, uninhibited and chock-full of infectious music.
Eighteen-year-old Star (Sasha Lane) escapes her dysfunctional family by joining up with a sales crew of young adults. All of these young misfits are breaking away from a situation in which there is no room for them. They crisscross the American Midwest in a van, rebelling and partying while selling magazine subscriptions door to door. While they seem to be one big family, they have to give up most of their income to Krystal (Riley Keough), the icy boss who enjoys her lazy life thanks to other people’s hard-earned money. Somewhere along the way, Star falls for the charms of – and would like to take off with – her rebellious colleague Jake (Shia LaBeouf).
American Honey takes you on a trip with a group of young people who are completely free and yet not able to liberate themselves from their present, limited lives. All they have is each other. British director Andrea Arnold (‘Red Road’; ‘Fish Tank’) has once again succeeded in creating a completely unique piece, and was rewarded for the third time with the Cannes Jury Prize.
You just have to experience American Honey!
