After the loss of his French wife, Ward returns to the Netherlands for the first time in years. He wants to live in the village where he was born and arranges to have his house renovated by Doru, a Romanian handyman. Ward misses his wife and finds it hard to pick up the thread of his life in the Netherlands. When Doru doesn’t turn up for work one day and seems to have disappeared for good, Ward takes care of his cheerful, naughty nine-year-old son Mihai. Together they drive to Romania to look for Alina, Mihai’s mother. But she too seems to have disappeared…
In this gorgeously photographed and intimate road movie, Raymond Thiry plays Ward with a masterful sense of when to show reserve. Once again he proves he is one of the Netherlands’ best film actors. One look, one gesture and you feel what he means.
