Mommy is an ode to the unconditional love between a mother and her son. When the impulsive, out-of-control 15-year-old Steve is expelled from his private school, his single mother Diane feels she must keep him at home. This demands a huge amount of patience and stamina because Steve has ADHD and refuses to take his medication. Inevitably, the two often end up in an explosive confrontation. When Kyla, their stuttering neighbour, befriends them and helps Steve with his homework, a close bond develops between the three of them. What happens next is anything but predictable.
One thing is certain: you’ll be moved by Steve and Diane. You can’t help but feel the passion, both positive and negative, that drives their relationship. Their interplay is fabulous. Cleverly, the plot and the way Mommy is filmed complement each other perfectly. In Cannes, the response to Mommy was wildly enthusiastic and the film won also the Jury Prize.
