Jessica, Perla, Julie, Ariane en Naïma verblijven in een moeder- en kindhuis waar ze ondersteuning krijgen als jonge en aanstaande moeders. Jeunes Mères is de nieuwste film van tweevoudig Gouden Palm winnaars Jean-Pierre & Luc Dardenne en ging in wereldpremière op het Filmfestival van Cannes, waar het de prijs won voor Beste Scenario. A moving and heartening mosaic film in which the Dardennes brothers show how five young women in a mother and baby home fight for a better life for themselves and their child.
Pregnant teenagers Jessica, Perla, Julie, Ariane and Naïma – each with a personal story and their own challenges – find mutual support from each other. Fighting for a better future isn’t always easy, but the mother and baby home offers them protection, warmth and connection.
The latest film from two-time Palme d’Or winners Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, Jeunes Mères premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won Best Screenplay. Most of the cast are non-professional actors, with the performances by the “young mothers” being particularly outstanding. The film has had five-star reviews in the Flemish magazine Humo (“Jeunes Mères is the best film of the year so far and offers exactly what we need these days: light in the darkness” and the Dutch newspaper Trouw (“A beautiful social chronicle, made with deeply touching tenderness and precision”).
