A delightful, heartwarming documentary about the annual porridge-making tournament in a tiny Scottish village.

Porridge afficionados have descended on the Scottish village of Carrbridge every year for thirty years for the world porridge-making championships, where they compete for the ultimate accolade, the Golden Spurtle. There are few culinary traditions that have stood the test of time as well as a nourishing bowl of porridge for breakfast, and the event revolves around the charismatic organiser Charlie Miller, who despite his failing health is determined to ensure the tournament’s success and with it his legacy.

With a healthy dose of Scottish self-deprecation, the Australian director and cameraman manage to create a light-hearted, nostalgic atmosphere, making The Golden Spurtle a hilarious documentary that is a tribute to the warm and endearing locals and competitors alike – all of whom are slightly eccentric, imperturbable, and blessed with a wonderfully dry sense of humour.
