Jean-Paul Salomé – France, 2025 – 128 minutes – spoken language: French, with English subtitles
Jan Bojarski, a young Polish engineer, seeks refuge in France during World War II, where he puts his creative talent to use producing forged documents for the resistance. After the war, however, his newfound freedom does not bring him stability: without official residency status, Bojarski cannot apply for patents for his many inventions and must make a living doing low-paying work. Until a gangster recognises his talent and suggests he counterfeit banknotes. So, unbeknown to his family, Bojarski embarks on a perilous double life.
L’Affaire Bojarski is a gripping blend of crime thriller, love story and psychological drama. The film is inspired by the life of the real Jan Bojarski, who was known as the Cézanne of counterfeiters. His perfect forgeries, which looked better than the original banknotes, caused the Banque de France a great deal of frustration in the 1950s and 1960s. The role of Jan Bojarski is brilliantly portrayed by the French-Algerian actor Reda Kateb (Hors normes, Un prophète).
