Midden in de Atlantische oceaan ligt de archipel Kaapverdië (Cabo Verde). Hier worden de orkanen geboren, die jaarlijks de Caraïben en de VS teisteren. Van nature kennen de eilanden vele beperkingen. Wie hier leeft, moet volhardend zijn. Of je nu een geit, een mens of een schildpad bent, wil je hier een leven opbouwen, nieuw leven voortbrengen, dan zul je levenskracht moeten tonen.

De onbetwiste hoofdrolspelers in de film zijn de zeeschildpadden, majestueus zwevend in de oceaan of juist extreem schattig en kwetsbaar op het strand. Deze eilanden zijn voor hen een van de belangrijkste broedplaatsen in de wereld. Zij leggen hun eieren op de stranden waar ze geboren zijn. De enorme volharding waarmee de babyschildpad alle obstakels overwint op zijn weg naar de levensreddende oceaan, de mens die op een eiland net zo overgeleverd is aan de elementen als de dieren, ze tonen hun levensdrang tegen de klippen op in een snel veranderende wereld. Een grootse film, die raakt aan het overweldigende en onbenoembare van het leven op aarde.

In the middle of the Atlantic Ocean lies the archipelago of Cape Verde (Cabo Verde), the birthplace of the hurricanes that ravage the Caribbean and the US every year. The islands are subject to many natural constraints. Those who live here must be tenacious. Whether you are a goat, a human being or a turtle, if you want to build a life here and bring new life into the world, you will have to have a determination to survive.

The film’s undisputed stars are the sea turtles, who glide majestically through the ocean or look extremely cute and vulnerable on the beach. These islands are one of the world’s most important breeding grounds for them. The females return to the beaches where they were hatched to lay their eggs. The extraordinary determination with which the baby turtles overcome every obstacle on their way to the life-saving ocean demonstrates their will to live against all odds in a rapidly changing world. Likewise the human island dwellers, who are just as much at the mercy of the elements as the animals. This magnificent film captures the overwhelming and indescribable nature of life on Earth.
